Achilles Heel
Everyone has one right? Well i truely have discovered mine in the context of these runs….my saw heel, which at first i put down to a niggle, then after a couple of weeks started to worry a little more about, has now officially been diagnosed by the internet sage as achilles tendinitis, a sawness and inflamation of the tendon behind the heel and lower calf. Apparently this is typical of men aged 30-40, who over pronate, and who up their running distances too quickly over a short period of time. Tick, tick and tick. My doctor has subsequently confirmed it. The ony real cure is just to rest it - fat chance of that over the next few months. So i will have to juggle a regime of rest and hard training, lubricated by dollops of deap heat and ibuprufen gel for the inflamation. What fun! Something else to keep the mind occupied as we approach the first of our races. Seriously though, my longest run so far has been 15 miles a few weeks back….i need to clock up a couple of 16-20 mile runs to feel confident going into this….
