About Us

EarthFireIce at North Pole

EarthFireIce is a global campaign to drive awareness and action against climate change. EarthFireIce aims to collect a million pledges from individuals and companies to decrease their CO2 emmissions. We are kick-starting the campaign by running the extreme Sahara and North Pole Marathons. The Sahara marathon took place on 26 February 2007 and the North Pole Marathon took place on 7 April 2007. Support us and pledge now.

We are not looking for anything life changing here. Small commitments will not cost you a cent but they will make a big difference! How much does it cost to switch off your lights when you’re not using them? Or to switch off your electronics when they are not in use? These are just some of the small habits which we hope to inspire. A million of these small commitments is a big impact. Its that simple.

Can we enforce all these pledges? No, but that misses the point. A million pledges is symbolic. Each pledge is one more person who cares about the planet. One more person who thinks before they buy or who considers how to reduce the energy waste in their lives. One more person who knows that global warming will not be solved by a single person but by all of us working together. This is what EarthFireIce is about.

THE EARTHFIREICE TEAM

Sean (left), Ed (Right)

Sean Cornwell and Ed Stumpf met while doing their MBAs at INSEAD a couple of years back. Sean works for Google, doing marketing, while Ed works for Standard Chartered Bank. Sean if half British, half Italian, grew up all over Europe, studied at Cambridge and has been to 96 countries….he thinks it’s about time he gave something back to the planet after all those carbon rich flights over the last 32 years. Ed is 29 years old, South African and currently resident in London. Ed is a keen outdoor enthusiast and has mountaineered, climbed and snowboarded around the world. Trevor Gardiner joined the team in January 2007 as a the “non-marathon-running” media brains behind it all.

EARTHFIREICE EVENTS

As part of the launch of EarthFireIce two members of the team are competing in the worlds hottest and coldest marathons. The Sahara marathon takes place in Southern Algeria on 26 February while the North Pole marathon takes place on 7th of April. Both trips are being offset through Pure Trust, the carbon offsetting charity.

These two marathons - “fire” and “ice” - are the first in series of events which the charity intends to use to focus attention on the kind of problems that global warming is causing. While the disappearance of the polar ice caps is a tragedy and danger in its own right, it is also beginning to pose a real threat in many parts of the world, due to rising sea levels whilst global warming is causing increasing areas of land to turn to desert.

In the pipeline are a number of further exciting events including booklets advising on green-living in the home, comedy nights, art exhibitions and entertainment events. If you would like to make any suggestions or help arrange a future EarthFireIce event please Contact Us
